Our story
We're just neighbors who decided to show up. Here's how it started — and why we haven't stopped.
Who we are
No Kings Evergreen is a grassroots civic group founded in early 2025 by a small group of Evergreen neighbors who felt called to act. We're teachers, parents, retirees, business owners, and first-time activists — united by a shared belief that democracy is worth defending, and that it starts right here at home.
We're part of the broader No Kings movement — a nationwide network of community groups standing up for democratic values. But our work is local. We know our neighbors, we know our mountains, and we show up for both.
We are nonpartisan, nonviolent, and deeply committed to the idea that civic engagement is an act of love — for our community, our country, and each other.
What guides us
We’re not a national organization with a local chapter. We’re Evergreen neighbors who started showing up — and kept showing up. Everything we do is shaped by the people who live here.
We believe in the power of nonviolent civic engagement. Our gatherings are welcoming, our actions are lawful, and our tone is one of dignity — even when we’re angry.
We’re united by a belief in democratic values, not party affiliation. Our members span a wide range of backgrounds. What we share is a commitment to accountability and community.
We’re part of the broader No Kings movement — a nationwide network of community groups standing up for democracy. Local roots, national solidarity.
How we got here
January 2025
A handful of neighbors met at Buchanan Park with handmade signs and a lot of questions. About 30 people showed up. Nobody expected what came next.
March 2025
Word spread through the community. By spring, our monthly gatherings were drawing 150–200 people. We formalized our name and started a mailing list.
July 2025
We marched in the Evergreen Independence Day parade for the first time — 80 members strong, flags flying, smiles wide. The crowd response was overwhelming.
Fall 2025
We launched our voter registration drive, hosted our first town hall forum, and began partnering with Jefferson County civic organizations.
Today
Over 400 people on our mailing list. Monthly gatherings, regular actions, and a community that keeps showing up — for each other and for democracy.
